Happy Tuesday!

Good morning! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend! Here is the word list for this week! Also, remember: English test tomorrow (Wednesday) and Social Studies test Friday.

For the English test: the only things from Edusystem that will be on the test are prefix/suffix, compare and contrast, fiction v nonfiction. The rest will be reading comprehension. So reading a passage and responding to questions. There will also be questions about the “Rules for Sentences” that we have been studying. The kids have a packet that we are working on in class that they can study from.

I hope that helps!

Happy Wednesday!!!

We are more than halfway through the week! I’m so excited to see you parents on Friday!

A couple updates. I wrote on the blog last week and in their notebooks but who knows if that message got across, haha.

  1. Exam in English and Social Studies next week. English will be WEDNESDAY and Social Studies will be FRIDAY.
The English exam will cover the simple sentence structure we have been reviewing since August. In class we are working on a packet regarding sentence structure. Feel free to ask your student to show it to you! It covers the following: all sentences start with a capital letter, end with a punctuation mark, are in an order that makes sense, etc. They will also be asked to read a paragraph and answer questions based on what the read. Yay for reading comprehension! The things you will see from edusystem on the exam are things such as vocabulary and sentence structure.
The Social Studies exam will cover Unit 1, lessons 1 (The Origins of a Caribbean Island), 2 (Geographical Features of the Island), and 3 (Renewable Resources). You have access to all of those on edusystem. Please do not be alarmed. All of that info will not appear on the exam! Just the important details, such as vocabulary, important places in Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico’s location within the world, and understanding of natural resources. There may also be questions from the homework assignment we did “Learning about Our Island” from google classroom that used research on a website.

Hopefully you’ve been able to see that I’m reviewing with the kids in class before EVERY exam. We always write in our notebook the topics that will be covered. I’m really trying to use the notebooks more! 🙂

REMEMBER! No school on Monday! It’s a holiday! Yay!

Hopefully this isn’t too much information to process. And again, I’m sorry about so many exams!

IMPORTANT! Please always SIGN THE EXAM and send it back to school for me to keep! I’m still missing several SIGNED math exams.

Thanks for all your hard work and constant support everyone! See you Friday!

Happy Friday!

Hello Everyone!

It was a long day! We struggled to focus and stay on task so we didn’t accomplish too much, but hopefully it was just Friday excitement. I reminded the students but they don’t seem to be relaying the memo: The Math exams need to be signed and returned! I know for the other exams I’ve had the students keep them. I didn’t realize it was a school policy to have the teacher keep the exam! Oops! Please SIGN the exam and send it back to school with your student. Thank you for those of you that have already done that!

I also realize I’m not “technically” supposed to assign homework for the weekend, I just wanted to give them more time to complete the activity. Ideally they finished the English homework and have already given it to me. But if not I’m still going to accept it on Monday. That was my intention when setting the “due date” as Monday on google classroom. I just want to give them the time they need.

Next week Tuesday (Oct 2) we have our Science exam! I’ve been reviewing with the kids and here are the topics they will see on the exam:

  • Vertebrate and invertebrate (examples)
  • Carnivore, omnivore, herbivore (examples)
  • Insects (among other invertebrate)
  • Animal classifications (mammal, fish, amphibians, avian, reptiles)
  • Adaptations (examples and purpose)
  • Animal characteristics (such as the info that we investigated for our animal reports)

The point of the animal reports was to have the kids research and be familiar enough with the information from the unit that they could give me plenty of examples for the exam! So hopefully that works out!

Hopefully the kids told you (I’m not sure though!) that after next week (2 weeks from now) we will have a Social Studies and English exam. I’m so so sorry for all the exams! But it’s just something we have to do 😫. Hopefully no one gets too stressed out. The information is all from the units we are in currently and there won’t be any surprise information.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or aren’t sure about something! I realize the kids may not always relay accurate information so I’m trying to use the notebooks more and be more specific in my blog posts. If it’s too much let me know! Or if you are happy with the change let me know too!

I really appreciate all the hard work of you as parents and support you provide both for the kids and for me! Please know I only want what’s best for the kids, so anything you want to share with me please do!

HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND!

Christina Gibbons, 4B

I hope everyone’s week is going well! We’re finishing up our animal reports. The rubric (how they will be graded) is on Google Classroom. I will include it here as well. Feel free to ask your student to show it to you before they turn it in on Friday!

EXAM NEXT WEEK IN SCIENCE! The exam will cover Unit 2, Lesson 1 (The Animal World) and Lesson 2 (I Have a Skeleton). These are all things we’ve been covering for a few weeks now and the kids should have plenty of notes in their notebook. Some of the topics on the exam will be vertebrate, invertebrate, animal classifications, etc. Make sure to study the vocabulary from those 2 lessons! Everything you need to study should be in the notebook and on edusystem.

Just an FYI for looking into the future: I will be giving a Social Studies exam soon (probably in 2 weeks), which I also told the kids. So hopefully they communicated that to you!

Hope you all are doing well! See you soon at the next Parent/Teacher conference!

Mid-week Update!

Spelling Words for This Week!

Out sick!

Hi parents! Unfortunately I am out sick today. I think I might have caught the bug that some of the kids had. But fortunately I have all weekend to recover, so I should be fine by Monday! So, because of this we will push the Spelling Quiz to Monday (yay! more time to study!) I’m putting the list on this post again for everyone to see. The Spelling Quiz every Friday will never be more than 10 words. I want to keep it a manageable amount. On Monday, I will post the new list for the week. Remember, you can always find the list on the link ***Vocabulary & Spelling*** located in the list with the Calendar (donde puedes buscar el enlace para el calendario – allá vas a encontrar el enlace para las palabras de Spelling).

Here is the spelling list again! I’ll post the new one on Monday so we don’t get confused.

Mid-week update!

Hey everyone! We’ve made it halfway through the week! We’ve had several kids out sick this week, so I hope everyone is feeling better, and those who aren’t I hope you get well soon!!! We miss you when you’re not in class!

Reminder that tomorrow is our Math test. There are kahoot challenges on google classroom. Something I discovered: challenges can only be played on phones or tablets, because it has to go through the app. They can be played at any place/time, but have to be on a phone or tablet (NOT the computer). All the units to review are on edusystem. It may seem like a lot of material, but we’ve been doing a lot of practice and review. They are skills that build on one another, so they all work together.

We are continuing to work on the Social Studies document from google classroom in class. We are also working on our Animal Reports. Any questions about google classroom feel free to let me know! The goal is to print less and save some trees!

For tomorrow, we will be using the English activities from Edusystem (Unit: Connecting Life Events, Lesson: Developing Reading Proficiency). If you look at the lesson for this week you should see that I asked you to print the 2 activities for “Nonfiction Text Structure” If you are unable to print, let me know and I’ll make some extra copies. We’re going to work on those in class tomorrow.

And don’t forget! Spelling quiz Friday!

Tambien quiero decir que si encuentras dificil a intender los mensajes que hago en ingles, no dudas en preguntarme en espanol. Bueno, hay que intender que espanol es me segundo idioma, asi que a veces me equivoco! Pero quiero que sientes comodo y puedes intender lo que pasa en el salon. Porque, claro que si los padres no entienden, no pueden ayudar los ninos! Y quiero que todos tienen exito.

Lindo dia a todos!

Miss Gibbons, 4B

Another week in 4B!

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend. I’m just glad we didn’t get hit by a hurricane! Haha. The lessons for this week are all on edusystem. Please make sure and download them AT HOME because the school WiFi isn’t strong for downloading. As I mentioned last week, and put in the calendar, this week on Thursday we will have a Math test. It covers unit one that we’ve been working on (place value, rounding, Arabic numeral system, etc.) We’ll be reviewing throughout the week in math class, but here is a kahoot challenge if kids wanna practice at home!
